RTFC Minis

A fun, supportive first step into football for young players

The Rotherham Town FC Minis programme is designed specifically for Under 6 players (children in Year 1 at school) who are taking their first steps into organised football. Our aim is simple: to provide a positive, enjoyable and development-focused environment where children can build confidence, develop key skills and fall in love with the game.

We understand that for many families this may be their child’s first football experience, which is why we place enjoyment, encouragement and inclusivity at the heart of everything we do.

What to Expect at Our Minis Sessions

Our Minis sessions are carefully planned to support both football and personal development through fun, age-appropriate activities.

Each session includes:
    •    Fun warm-ups and movement-based games
    •    Ball mastery activities to build confidence on the ball
    •    Simple dribbling, passing and shooting practices
    •    Small-sided games that encourage creativity and decision-making
    •    Plenty of encouragement, praise and smiles

Children are encouraged to express themselves, try new things and enjoy learning in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Coaching & Safe Environment

All sessions are delivered by FA-qualified, DBS-checked coaches with experience of working with young children. Our coaches focus on:
    •    Creating a safe and welcoming environment
    •    Encouraging effort and participation rather than results
    •    Supporting children of all abilities and confidence levels
    •    Helping young players develop teamwork, communication and listening skills

Safeguarding and child welfare are central to everything we do at Rotherham Town FC.

Player Pathway – Looking Ahead to U7 (September 2026)

The Minis programme forms part of Rotherham Town FC’s long-term player development pathway.

Children who take part will:
    •    Develop strong fundamental movement and football skills
    •    Build friendships with players in their age group
    •    Become familiar with our coaching approach and club values
    •    Be well prepared for progression into our Under 7 team for the 2026/27 season

This ensures a smooth and confident transition into team football for both players and parents.

Inclusive, Community-Focused Football

Rotherham Town FC is a proud community-based club, welcoming boys and girls of all abilities. Our Minis programme is about participation, enjoyment and development — not pressure or performance.

Parents and carers are encouraged to support from the sidelines in a positive and respectful way, helping us create the best possible experience for every child.

Try Before You Commit – First 2 Sessions Free

We want every child to feel comfortable and excited about football. That’s why the first two Minis sessions are completely free, giving children the chance to try the programme with no obligation.

After this introductory period, families can decide whether they would like their child to continue as part of the Rotherham Town FC pathway.
